Joplin, MO – Two Injured in Crash on Rt P Near Joplin

Joplin, MO (May 3, 2025) – A mid-morning crash just outside Joplin sent two drivers to the hospital on May 1 after a Chevrolet pickup overturned during a reportedly failed turn along Route P.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m., about one mile west of Joplin in Jasper County. The incident involved a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound and a westbound 2015 Dodge Caravan.

Troopers say the driver of the Silverado, a 44-year-old man from Joplin, began to lose control while negotiating a turn. The vehicle skidded, crossed the center of the roadway, and collided with the approaching Dodge Caravan. The force of the impact caused the Silverado to leave the road, strike a ditch, and overturn.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and sustained minor injuries. The 44-year-old man and the 54-year-old woman from Carl Junction, who were driving the Caravan, were each taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital Joplin for treatment.

The Silverado was totaled and removed by Haslips, while the Caravan sustained extensive damage and was towed by H and H Towing. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Joplin, MO - Two Injured in Crash on Rt P Near JoplinMotor vehicle accidents in Missouri often result in injury or worse for those involved. The Missouri Department of Transportation reported over 131,000 crashes in 2023 alone. Around 47,000 of those incidents led to at least one injury. These collisions can occur on highways, county roads, or rural routes like Route P, making it essential for drivers to remain alert at all times.

Even with proper safety precautions, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Below are some common injuries reported in crashes across Missouri:

  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: This is one of the most common results of rear-end and side collisions. The rapid force of impact can strain the muscles and ligaments in the neck, leading to stiffness, pain, and limited movement. These injuries may not always show symptoms right away.
  • Concussions and Head Trauma: Even a minor collision can cause a driver or passenger to hit their head against the steering wheel, window, or seat. Head injuries often require diagnostic imaging and monitoring, as symptoms like dizziness or confusion can be delayed.
  • Back and Spinal Injuries: The lower back is especially vulnerable during crashes. Injuries range from herniated discs to more serious spinal cord damage, and recovery may include physical therapy or surgery depending on severity.
  • Broken Bones and Fractures: Wrists, arms, ribs, and legs are often fractured during high-impact collisions. In many cases, victims require weeks or months to heal, and in some cases, surgical repair may be needed.
  • Emotional Trauma: Mental and emotional health can suffer long after the physical injuries heal. Anxiety, fear of driving, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are not uncommon after a serious crash.
