Car Accidents in Missouri

Johnson, MO - Two-Vehicle Crash on MO-13 at Division Rd Sends One to HospitalMissouri experiences a significant number of motor vehicle crashes each year. In 2023 alone, more than 150,000 crashes were reported statewide, resulting in over 47,000 injuries and more than 1,000 deaths. The Missouri Department of Transportation continues to work on improving road safety, but crashes remain a major concern across the state’s highways and intersections. One important aspect to consider after a Missouri accident is the injuries victims commonly face. Here are some of the most frequent types of car accident injuries and how they may affect those involved:

  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: Rear-end collisions and sudden stops often lead to whiplash. This soft-tissue injury can result in pain, limited mobility, and headaches. Recovery times vary depending on severity, and early medical attention can prevent long-term complications.
  • Back and Spinal Cord Injuries: The force of impact can cause herniated discs or damage to the spinal cord. These injuries may lead to chronic pain or, in severe cases, paralysis. Physical therapy and specialist care are often needed.
  • Head Injuries and Concussions: Blows to the head during a crash can result in traumatic brain injuries. Even mild concussions should be monitored, as symptoms like confusion, memory loss, and fatigue can linger.
  • Broken Bones: Arms, legs, ribs, and facial bones are frequently fractured during serious crashes. Some fractures require surgery, while others need weeks in casts and physical rehab for full recovery.
  • Internal Injuries: Damage to internal organs may not be immediately obvious. That’s why medical evaluations are crucial, even when symptoms appear mild at first.
