Jackson Co., MO – Deputy Struck and Seriously Injured at Buckner Tarsney Rd & Ryan Rd

Jackson County, MO (December 19, 2025) – A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy suffered serious injuries on Wednesday, December 17, after a vehicle struck him while he worked an unrelated crash scene. The incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of Buckner Tarsney Road and Ryan Road, just south of Interstate 70.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two deputies were already present at the location investigating a separate traffic crash. During that response, a vehicle traveling southbound approached the scene and struck one of the deputies. The deputy stood outside of a patrol vehicle at the time of impact.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided medical care at the scene. Paramedics transported the injured deputy to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that the deputy sustained serious injuries but remains in stable condition.

The driver involved in the crash did not suffer injuries. Highway Patrol officials reported that the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement officers.  The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to lead the investigation.

We wish the injured deputy a full and steady recovery.

Serious Injury Crashes in MissouriDeputy Struck and Seriously Injured at Buckner Tarsney Rd & Ryan Rd

Serious injury crashes in Missouri can cause life-changing harm, especially when a person stands outside a vehicle near an active crash scene. Impacts at roadway speeds often expose the body to direct force with little protection. Even when a victim survives, recovery can take months or longer.

Serious crashes frequently result in injuries that require immediate emergency care and long-term treatment. Some injuries show clear symptoms right away, while others develop over time and worsen without proper care.

Possible injuries from serious roadway collisions include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries, such as concussions or more severe brain trauma, which may affect memory, focus, and emotional health
  • Spinal cord injuries, which can cause chronic pain, nerve damage, or permanent mobility limitations
  • Neck and back injuries, including herniated discs or severe whiplash that interfere with daily movement
  • Broken bones, often involving the arms, legs, ribs, or pelvis, which may require surgery and rehabilitation
  • Internal injuries, such as organ damage or internal bleeding that may not appear immediately
  • Soft tissue injuries, including torn muscles and ligaments that can limit strength and flexibility
  • Psychological trauma, such as anxiety or post-traumatic stress, especially after violent roadway incidents

These injuries often affect more than physical health. Victims may miss work, lose income, and require ongoing medical care. Rehabilitation, physical therapy, and follow-up appointments can place financial and emotional strain on families.

Proper medical documentation plays a critical role after a serious crash. Medical records help guide treatment and provide clear evidence of how injuries affect daily life. Delaying care may increase complications and make recovery more difficult.

Legal guidance can help injured individuals understand their options after a serious crash. A personal injury lawyer can help victims seek compensation for medical costs, lost wages, future care needs, and pain and suffering. Each case depends on injury severity, available evidence, and the circumstances surrounding the crash.
