Odessa, MO (June 8, 2026) – An Odessa car accident on Interstate 70 left a young passenger injured Sunday afternoon in Lafayette County. The crash occurred on June 7, 2026, at approximately 1:25 p.m. along I-70 westbound near the 35.0 mile marker.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision involved a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer, both traveling westbound. The 19-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, who was not wearing a safety device and was reported to have no insurance, struck the rear of the Freightliner. The Freightliner was operated by a 33-year-old male from Delray Beach, Florida, who was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
Reports indicate that after impacting the rear of the Freightliner, the Chevrolet traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and then returned to the roadway. The Malibu sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Jackson County Tow. The Freightliner sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.
A 20-year-old female passenger from St. Joseph, Missouri, who was an occupant in the Chevrolet, suffered injuries in the crash. She was transported by Odessa EMS to Centerpoint Medical Center for additional treatment. At this time, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.
