Kansas City, KS (May 8, 2026) – A Kansas City car accident caused injuries late Thursday night along Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County. The collision happened at approximately 11:53 p.m. on May 7 near mile marker 418.8 eastbound on the Kansas Turnpike Authority portion of I-70.
According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2022 Volvo driven by 40-year-old Saifullo Shoev of Brooklyn, New York, was traveling eastbound in the second lane of three when the driver reportedly made an unsafe lane change across multiple lanes. Authorities stated that a 2005 Honda Civic driven by 58-year-old Mark A. Smith of Independence, Kansas, then struck the rear of the Volvo.
Shoev was reportedly not injured in the collision. A passenger in the Volvo, 30-year-old Nematullo Sairidini of New York, New York, was also listed as uninjured. Smith suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to KU Med for medical treatment. The Honda sustained disabling damage and was removed from the scene by Santa Fe Tow.
The accident caused traffic disruptions along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 as crews worked to clear damaged vehicles from the roadway. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
