Gladstone, MO – Two Injured After Semi-Truck Crash on I-35

Gladstone, MO (August 16, 2025) – Two people were hurt Friday morning following a crash between two commercial trucks along Interstate 35 just north of Antioch Road in Clay County.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 11:00 a.m. on August 15. A 2018 Mack Truck, driven by a 26-year-old man from Gladstone, Missouri, was heading southbound when it collided with the towed unit of a 2025 Volvo V&L Tractor. The Volvo had slowed for traffic when it was struck from behind.

The force of the crash caused significant damage to both trucks, leaving them totaled and requiring towing from the scene. Emergency services responded quickly, and both the 50-year-old driver of the Volvo and a 26-year-old male occupant were transported by EMS to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment. The Mack driver was reportedly uninjured.

Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, including Trooper D.T. Waller, were on scene along with additional support from Corporals B. Shows and B.E. Thoman, as well as Trooper B.C. Stark. The crash caused delays for drivers traveling southbound on Interstate 35 as crews worked to clear the area. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Truck Accidents in Missouri

Gladstone, MO - Two Injured After Semi-Truck Crash on I-35Truck-related accidents in Missouri often result in serious injuries due to the sheer size and weight of commercial vehicles. In 2023, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported more than 13,000 crashes involving large trucks, with hundreds leading to injury or death. These crashes can have life-altering consequences for those involved.

When crashes like these occur, there are often several factors that can contribute. Here are a few that commonly lead to trucking accidents:

  • Following Too Closely: Trucks require more time and distance to stop than passenger vehicles. When drivers follow too closely, especially in heavy traffic, they risk rear-end collisions. These are often severe due to the force involved when large trucks are part of the crash.
  • Traffic Flow Changes: Congested highways or sudden slowdowns are especially dangerous for large commercial vehicles. When traffic conditions shift unexpectedly, truck drivers must react quickly. Failure to adjust speed or maintain awareness can easily result in a crash.
  • Driver Fatigue: Long hours on the road, especially for cross-country truckers, can lead to fatigue. Even slight drowsiness can delay reaction time and impair judgment, making it harder to avoid collisions in changing traffic conditions.
  • Improper Maintenance: A poorly maintained brake system or worn tires can limit a truck’s ability to stop in time. Trucking companies are responsible for maintaining their vehicles to prevent mechanical failures on the road.
