Clay County, MO (March 12, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning, March 10, on Interstate 35 in Clay County left a woman injured after one driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 6:47 a.m. along Interstate 35 southbound near mile marker 25.4. Emergency units responded to the area after reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
Investigators reported that a 2012 Volkswagen Golf and a 2003 Honda Civic were traveling southbound at the time of the accident. The vehicles collided after the driver of the Volkswagen reportedly fell asleep while driving.
Officials identified the driver of the Volkswagen as a 20-year-old man from Weatherby, Missouri. He did not report injuries at the scene, and the vehicle sustained minor damage.
The second vehicle involved was a 2003 Honda Civic driven by a 63-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri. Authorities said the car sustained extensive damage in the crash. The woman suffered minor injuries during the accident. She was later transported for medical evaluation following the collision.
Both vehicles were able to leave the scene after the crash. Officials recorded the details of the incident as part of the investigation.
