Merriam, KS (February 28, 2026) – A complex five-vehicle car accident in Merriam disrupted the Friday evening commute at the 75th Street ramp from Northbound I-35 on February 27.
At approximately 4:55 p.m., a 2021 Toyota Tacoma driven by John James Wells exited the roadway to the right, striking the rear of a 2010 Toyota Sienna driven by Madeline Marie Schroeder. The Tacoma continued forward, striking a 2014 Honda Pilot driven by Ronald Dean Stephan. The impact pushed the Pilot into a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Danielle Marie Tucker, which then collided with a 2018 Ford Mustang driven by Zaden Amadeus Brewster. The Malibu ultimately came to a rest after striking a barrier wall.
John James Wells was the only individual reported injured; he was transported to Advent Health Shawnee Mission with a complaint of pain. The other drivers and a passenger in the Mustang, Brooklyn Rose Gibbs, reported no apparent injuries.
Four of the five vehicles sustained enough damage to require removal by Almighty Tow Service. All involved parties were reportedly wearing safety restraints at the time of the pileup. At this time, the Merriam Police Department is investigating.
