According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala failed to yield to slowed traffic and struck the rear of a 2019 Kenworth T680. The impact left the Impala with total damage, while the Kenworth sustained only minor damage and was driven away from the scene.

The driver of the Impala, a 36-year-old woman from Grandview, Missouri, was wearing a seatbelt at the time but still sustained minor injuries. She was transported by West Peculiar Fire personnel to Belton Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and care. The driver of the Kenworth, a 58-year-old man from Independence, Missouri, was unharmed.

Traffic in the area was affected while the scene was cleared. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Impala had to be towed by All City due to extensive damage.

We hope the injured individual recovers quickly.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Cass County, MO - Rear-End Crash on I 49 Leaves One InjuredRear-end accidents are among the most common types of crashes across Missouri. According to MODOT, thousands of these incidents occur annually due to distracted driving, tailgating, and sudden traffic slowdowns. Missouri drivers should always remain alert and maintain safe distances, particularly on interstates and high-speed roads.

Accidents like these can impact victims in a variety of ways. Here are a few issues people often face after such crashes:

  • Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: Even minor collisions can lead to injuries like whiplash, which may not show symptoms immediately. These injuries can cause long-term discomfort and often require ongoing medical attention.
  • Missed Work and Lost Wages: After an accident, injured drivers may be unable to work for days or even weeks. For many, this means falling behind on bills or facing added financial pressure during recovery.
  • Property Damage and Vehicle Replacement: A totaled vehicle, like the Impala in this incident, can leave a person without reliable transportation. Even with insurance, replacing a car can be both time-consuming and expensive.
  • Insurance Disputes: Insurance companies often try to limit what they pay out. Victims may struggle to get fair compensation for vehicle damage, medical bills, or time lost from work.
