Olathe, KS (February 1, 2026) – A Sunday car accident in Olathe on the western side of Johnson County sent a man and a woman to a local hospital with injuries.
According to official reports, at around 6:20 p.m. on January 31, a three-vehicle crash took place on K10 Eastbound near mile marker 34.8, just east of South Woodland Road. The incident involved a 2010 GMC Denali XL driven by 61-year-old Richard Underwood of Lenexa, a 2019 Toyota RAV4 driven by 28-year-old Laura Woodward of Lawrence, and a 2016 Ford Explorer driven by 33-year-old James Shay of Kansas City.
Traffic had reportedly begun to slow when Underwood’s GMC rear-ended the Toyota RAV4. Moments later, Shay’s Ford Explorer collided with the back of the GMC. Emergency crews, including the Kansas Highway Patrol and local responders, arrived to assess the scene and assist the injured.
James Shay and his 32-year-old passenger, Madeline Shay, were both transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. James complained of pain, while Madeline sustained more apparent injuries. All drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Sunflower Tow Service removed all three vehicles from the scene, and traffic delays were reported along the highway during the investigation and cleanup. The Olathe Police Department is assisting with the investigation as it continues.
