Accident with Injuries at K4 & Butler Rd Near Meriden, KS

Meriden, KS (January 28, 2026) – A car accident in Meriden left two people hospitalized after a crash involving a trash truck and a passenger vehicle on Tuesday afternoon, January 27. The incident happened around 3:12 p.m. at the intersection of K4 and Butler Road, just northeast of Meriden.

According to officers with K163, a 2022 Autocar trash truck driven by 52-year-old Michael S. Sauermilch of Netawaka was stopped at a sign before attempting to cross K4 westbound. As Sauermilch entered the intersection, his vehicle was hit from behind by a southbound 2014 Dodge Journey. The Dodge was driven by 40-year-old Yasser Minueses-Martinez of Topeka.

Upon impact, the Dodge became disabled in the southbound lane of K4 while the trash truck came to a stop on Butler Rd. Minueses-Martinez was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital with suspected minor injuries. His passenger, 47-year-old Dixsy Fonticoba-Madrigal of Marshalltown, Iowa, sustained suspected serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital for care. Sauermilch was reportedly uninjured.

Emergency crews from Jefferson County responded to the scene, and both vehicles were removed by Brown’s Super Service. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash and what led up to the collision.

We extend our thoughts to Yasser Minueses-Martinez and Dixsy Fonticoba-Madrigal and hope for their full and swift recovery.
