Camden, MO – Teen Pedestrian Struck on MO T Near W 80th St

Camden, MO (May 6, 2025) – A 15-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing the road near Camden.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. on May 3, along Missouri Route T at West 80th Street in Ray County. A 2024 Ford F-150, driven by a 40-year-old man from Camden, was heading northbound when it struck the teen as he attempted to cross the road on foot.

Emergency services responded quickly, and the injured teen—who is from Trenton—was transported by Ray County EMS to Liberty Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Authorities noted that the teen was exempt from safety device requirements due to being a pedestrian. The driver of the Ford was reportedly uninjured and remained at the scene. The vehicle sustained no damage and was driven away after the investigation concluded.

Ray County deputies also assisted at the scene, ensuring the area was safe and traffic was redirected during the initial response. The investigation is ongoing to determine all factors involved in the crash.

We hope the young pedestrian heals quickly and fully from his injuries.

Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri

Camden, MO - Teen Pedestrian Struck on MO T Near W 80th StPedestrian accidents are a growing concern across Missouri, with many of them occurring in rural or semi-rural areas like Ray County. According to recent state crash data, Missouri sees hundreds of pedestrian-involved incidents each year, with youth and elderly residents among the most vulnerable. These accidents often happen during daylight hours and in locations with limited crosswalk access or signage.

Understanding why pedestrian injuries happen and what they involve is crucial:

  • Reduced Driver Visibility: Even in daylight, distractions or blind spots can prevent drivers from seeing pedestrians. Road design, hills, and curves can also contribute to reduced visibility at crossing points.
  • Speed Limits Not Suited for Mixed Traffic: Many rural and residential roads have speed limits that may not reflect the reality of pedestrian activity. This creates risks, especially when sidewalks or marked crossings are absent.
  • Inattention and Distractions: Drivers distracted by mobile phones or other devices may overlook pedestrians until it’s too late. Even brief distractions significantly increase crash likelihood.
  • Lack of Pedestrian Infrastructure: In many areas, proper sidewalks, pedestrian signs, or traffic-calming features are lacking. This forces walkers into the roadway, increasing exposure to moving vehicles.
  • Delayed Emergency Response: In less populated regions, the time it takes for emergency teams to arrive can delay care. That can impact outcomes even when injuries appear minor at first.
