Buchanan County, MO (March 27, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash left one man dead on Thursday, March 26, in Buchanan County. The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Missouri Route 116, about two miles southwest of De Kalb.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said a 66-year-old man from De Kalb drove a 2016 Toyota Tundra eastbound on the highway. A 63-year-old passenger from St. Joseph rode in the vehicle at the time. A 26-year-old man from Dearborn drove a 2011 John Deere tractor westbound on the same road.
Reports show the Toyota crossed the center line and struck equipment being towed by the tractor. After the impact, the truck left the roadway and traveled off the south side before hitting a creek bed. The vehicle came to rest upright, facing east.
Emergency units arrived and found the passenger with critical injuries. A paramedic pronounced the 63-year-old man dead at 8:18 a.m. Officials later transported him from the scene.
Paramedics transported the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. The tractor driver did not report any injuries.
Investigators reviewed the crash scene and gathered details about the events leading up to the collision.
