The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened around 5:34 p.m. on January 23. A 2017 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 20-year-old man from Higbee, struck the rear of a 2023 Ford Bronco that had slowed due to congestion ahead. Investigators determined that the Jeep driver was distracted and unable to stop in time.

Tragically, a 39-year-old female passenger in the Ford Bronco, a Moberly resident, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:04 p.m. by Dr. Karl Huesgen. The Ford’s driver, a 25-year-old Moberly man, suffered moderate injuries, along with two other occupants—a 46-year-old male and a 47-year-old female, both also from Moberly. A fourth occupant of the Ford sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries in the crash. All injured parties were transported to University Hospital by EMS services for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by I-70 Towing. The crash remains under investigation.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased victim. We also wish a quick and full recovery to those injured in this tragic accident.
