Car Accidents in Missouri

Three Drivers Hurt in Grain Valley Car Accident on I-70A Grain Valley car accident involving several vehicles can result in multiple impacts as drivers lose control or are pushed into surrounding traffic. Missouri interstates carry vehicles traveling at highway speeds, making sudden collisions particularly dangerous. When a vehicle strikes a barrier and returns to the roadway, additional drivers may have little time to react. Investigators often examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness statements, and the sequence of impacts to determine how a multi-vehicle crash occurred.

How Is Fault Determined in a Three-Vehicle Collision?

Determining responsibility for a Grain Valley car accident involving three vehicles requires examining how the initial collision occurred and whether it caused the subsequent impacts.

Investigators may review the positions of the vehicles, their speeds, lane movements, and the location of damage. Physical evidence can help establish which vehicle made contact first and how the other vehicles became involved.

Missouri follows a pure comparative fault system, meaning responsibility may be divided among multiple drivers when the evidence supports shared fault. An injured person may still recover damages even if they contributed to the collision, although their recovery can be reduced according to their percentage of responsibility.

Why Are Secondary Collisions Dangerous on Interstate Highways?

A Grain Valley car accident involving a secondary impact can expose vehicle occupants to sudden changes in speed and direction.

When a vehicle strikes a concrete barrier, the force of the impact may cause it to spin, rebound, or re-enter moving traffic. Other motorists may have limited time to recognize the danger and avoid another collision.

Multiple impacts can also increase the risk of neck injuries, back injuries, concussions, and other physical harm. Even when occupants are wearing seat belts, the forces involved in successive collisions can result in injuries requiring medical treatment.

Can Multiple Drivers File Injury Claims After the Same Crash?

When several people are injured in a Grain Valley car accident, each person may have grounds to pursue an individual injury claim.

Although the injuries occurred during the same incident, the medical expenses, lost income, and other damages may differ for each person. Insurance companies may also evaluate each claim separately based on the available evidence and applicable coverage.

When multiple vehicles are involved, determining which insurance policies apply can become more complicated. Injured drivers may need to establish how each impact occurred and which parties contributed to their injuries.

What Compensation May Be Available After a Multi-Vehicle Crash?

People injured in Missouri car accidents may be entitled to compensation when another driver’s negligence contributed to their injuries.

Recoverable damages may include emergency medical treatment, hospital expenses, rehabilitation, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Future medical expenses and reduced earning capacity may also be considered when injuries have lasting effects.

The amount available depends on several factors, including the severity of the injuries, evidence of fault, insurance coverage, and documented losses. Missouri’s comparative fault rules may also affect the amount an injured person can recover.
