Topeka, KS (May 15, 2026) – A Topeka car accident during the early afternoon hours left two drivers hurt after a collision along Southwest 6th Avenue. The crash happened at approximately 12:55 p.m. on May 14 near 2630 SW 6th Ave, close to SW Medford Avenue in Shawnee County.
Officers with the Topeka Police Department responded to the Topeka car accident and began investigating the scene. Authorities reported that a 2009 Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on SW 6th Avenue when the driver attempted a left turn into the Dollar Tree parking lot. During the turn, the driver failed to yield to an oncoming 2005 Toyota Highlander, resulting in a serious impact. Police cited the turning driver for failure to yield while making a left turn.
Dorothy Lucille Teft, 82, of Topeka, Kansas, was identified as the driver of the Chevrolet Impala involved in the crash. Her vehicle sustained heavy passenger-side damage, and the airbags fully deployed upon impact. The car was removed by Darrell’s Towing and taken to Darrell’s Lot. Teft was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash and reported complaints of pain before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Amanda Joy Breana Schaffer, 36, of Topeka, Kansas, was driving the 2005 Toyota Highlander involved in the wreck. Her vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed by Suarez Towing to Suarez’s Lot. Schaffer was also wearing a seat belt and reported complaints of pain. She was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital for treatment.
The accident was not classified as a hit-and-run and did not involve a police pursuit. Traffic along SW 6th Avenue was temporarily affected while officers and emergency personnel worked to clear the damaged vehicles and document the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
