Topeka, KS (April 17, 2026) – At least one person was hurt as a result of a Topeka fire incident that occurred on Thursday night in the Hi-Crest neighborhood.
The Topeka Fire Department was dispatched to the 3300 block of SE Fremont Street at approximately 11:02 p.m. on April 16. Crews arrived at the residential scene in southeast Topeka to find that a fire had broken out within the home, though the residents had managed to stop the flames before the trucks pulled up.
Upon further investigation, officials determined that the blaze was caused by a cooking mishap in the kitchen area. While the fire was no longer active, the home was filled with heavy smoke, requiring firefighters to utilize specialized equipment to ventilate the structure.
One adult male inside the home suffered burn injuries during the ordeal. He was treated by paramedics on-site before being transported by an American Medical Response ambulance to a nearby hospital for medical care. Authorities have not released the name of the victim as they continue to review the details of the event.
