Mission, KS (April 9, 2026) – A Mission car accident unfolded Wednesday morning along Interstate 435 in Johnson County, leaving at least one person injured.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. on April 8 along I-435 Northbound near mile marker 7.2, just 0.1 miles north of Johnson Drive. According to authorities, the crash involved a 2017 Subaru Impreza and a 2017 International Power Unit that was pulling a 2016 OT trailer.
Investigators with the Kansas Highway Patrol reported that both vehicles were traveling northbound when the incident took place. The Subaru, driven by 47-year-old Jamie D. Kelley of Eudora, was traveling in the number three lane. At the same time, the International power unit, operated by 50-year-old Eric S. Westervelt of Spring Hill, was traveling in the number one lane.
Authorities state that both drivers attempted to merge into lane number two. During the merge, the Subaru sideswiped the International truck. The impact caused damage to both vehicles, though neither required towing from the scene.
Jamie D. Kelley reported injuries following the crash. She later transported herself to Overland Park Regional Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Eric S. Westervelt was reported to have no apparent injuries. Both drivers were wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision.
The accident led to temporary traffic disruptions as law enforcement worked to assess the situation and document the scene. At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
