Kansas City, MO – Lathrop Man Killed, Another Injured in Two-Car Crash on Missouri Hwy 33

Kansas City, MO (October 23, 2025) – A tragic two-car collision north of Kansas City claimed the life of a Lathrop man and left another driver injured on Wednesday evening, October 23. The fatal crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. on Missouri Highway 33, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Investigators report that a 55-year-old Lathrop resident was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry south on Highway 33 when he crossed the center line while rounding a curve. A northbound driver in a 2014 Volkswagen Passat tried to swerve to avoid a collision but was unable to do so in time. The two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in significant damage to both.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and found the driver of the Camry unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital in Liberty for medical treatment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the exact cause of the crash, including whether speed, distraction, or road conditions contributed to the collision. The section of Highway 33 where the crash occurred remained partially closed for several hours as crews cleared debris and documented evidence.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this tragic accident. We also extend our best wishes for a full recovery to the injured driver.

Car Accidents in MissouriLathrop Man Killed, Another Injured in Two-Car Crash on Missouri Hwy 33

Car accidents like this one are heartbreaking reminders of how quickly a normal drive can turn into tragedy. Missouri highways, especially rural routes such as Highway 33, can be particularly dangerous due to sharp curves, narrow lanes, and limited visibility. Even a brief moment of distraction or a split-second misjudgment can lead to devastating outcomes.

Common causes of car accidents on rural Missouri highways include:

  • Crossing the center line due to distraction, drowsiness, or overcorrection on curves
  • Speeding or unsafe driving that reduces reaction time
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Poor weather conditions that make roadways slippery or reduce visibility
  • Mechanical failures, such as worn tires or brake issues

When serious crashes occur, the families left behind often face emotional devastation and unexpected financial burdens. Funeral expenses, medical bills, and lost income can quickly add up. Surviving victims also endure physical pain, trauma, and months of recovery.

In these situations, seeking help from an experienced car accident lawyer can make a significant difference. Legal professionals can investigate the crash, determine liability, and pursue compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and emotional suffering.
