Car Accidents in Missouri

Warsaw, MO - Three Injured in Rear-End Crash on MO 7 at Cold SpringsIn Missouri, crashes caused by following too closely and rear-end impacts are common and often preventable. According to 2023 state data, more than 18,000 rear-end collisions occurred across Missouri, contributing to thousands of injuries. These crashes frequently happen at higher speeds or on undivided highways where visibility is limited.

When someone is injured in a rear-end accident, they can suffer from a variety of physical and emotional setbacks. Here’s what victims may face after such an event:

  • Spinal Injuries: The force of a rear-end collision often results in spinal trauma. Herniated discs, pinched nerves, or even vertebral fractures can lead to chronic pain and mobility limitations that require long-term therapy or surgery.
  • Facial Injuries: Airbags, shattered glass, and blunt impacts can cause facial fractures, lacerations, or dental injuries. These injuries may require reconstructive surgery and can leave lasting scars, both physical and emotional.
  • Abdominal Trauma: Seatbelts help save lives, but in a high-impact crash, they can also lead to bruising or damage to internal organs like the liver or spleen. These injuries can be particularly dangerous if not diagnosed and treated quickly.
  • Burns or Road Rash: In serious collisions, vehicle fires or ejections may cause burn injuries or severe abrasions. Recovery often includes skin grafts, wound care, and long hospital stays.
  • Delayed-Onset Symptoms: Not every injury is visible right away. Brain injuries, internal bleeding, or psychological symptoms like anxiety can develop days later, underscoring the need for medical evaluation after any accident.
