Lawrence, KS (March 16, 2026) – A head-on sideswipe car accident in Lawrence injured two drivers Monday morning on US-40 near milepost 382.2, approximately 0.8 miles west of West 27th Street.
According to the crash report, a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Brianna Craig, 23, of Overland Park, was traveling westbound on US-40 when the vehicle crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound 2020 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Elizabeth Pickett, 24, of Kansas City, Kansas. The Grand Cherokee came to rest in the eastbound lane, and the Malibu came to rest in the westbound lane.
Both drivers were injured and transported to area hospitals. Craig was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and Pickett was transported to Stormont Vail. Both were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Midwest Tow and taken to a tow lot. The crash was investigated by the City of Lawrence Police Department and was not a hit-and-run or police pursuit incident.
