Topeka, KS – Driver Injured After Rear-End Crash on US-75 Hwy

Topeka, KS (July 18, 2025) – A rear-end crash on United States Highway 75 left one person injured Thursday evening in Shawnee County. The incident happened at around 5:21 p.m. on July 17, just north of Lower Silver Lake Road.

Reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol show that the driver of a southbound vehicle reportedly rear-ended another vehicle. Authorities believe the crash occurred when the driver’s foot slipped off the brake pedal, leading to the impact.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, and the driver who struck the vehicle ahead was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital for treatment. The second driver was evaluated at the scene and reported no visible injuries. Both individuals involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time. Traffic in the area slowed while crews worked to assess and clear the vehicles involved. Law enforcement is continuing to review the circumstances of the crash, but no citations have been issued at this time.

We hope the injured driver makes a full and quick recovery.

Rear-End Collisions in Kansas

Topeka, KS - Driver Injured After Rear-End Crash on US-75 HwyRear-end accidents are a common type of vehicle crash in Kansas, often caused by driver inattention or following too closely. The Kansas Department of Transportation reports thousands of rear-end crashes each year, making up a significant portion of statewide collision statistics. These incidents can occur anywhere but are especially prevalent in areas with high traffic volume or fluctuating speeds.

Here’s a closer look at how rear-end crashes can lead to injuries and what victims should know:

  • Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: Rear-end crashes often result in rapid forward and backward motion of the neck and spine. Whiplash is among the most reported injuries and can take days to fully appear. Even low-speed impacts can cause lingering discomfort or nerve issues.
  • Vehicle Damage and Hidden Injuries: Modern vehicles can absorb impact well, sometimes making the damage appear minor. However, occupants might suffer hidden injuries like concussions, herniated discs, or joint sprains that require medical attention after the crash.
  • Insurance Disputes: Even when fault seems clear, some insurance companies delay or reduce payouts. Victims may struggle to get proper compensation for injuries, lost income, or vehicle damage without legal guidance.
  • Emotional and Psychological Toll: An accident can leave lasting anxiety, particularly if pain persists or work is missed. Victims may experience stress from medical bills or time away from loved ones or employment.
