Three Injured in Topeka Car Accident on Topeka Blvd

Topeka, KS (February 6, 2026) – A Topeka car accident on February 5 resulted in serious injuries for two individuals and left another with minor injuries. The crash occurred around 1:42 p.m. at the intersection of NW Topeka Boulevard and NW 50th Street in Shawnee County.

According to crash investigators, two vehicles collided after one failed to yield at a stop sign. A 2018 Kia Soul, driven by 19-year-old Jade L. Doyle of Topeka, was traveling eastbound on NW 50th St when it entered the intersection and collided with a northbound 2024 Kia Sportage on the driver’s side. The impact caused the Sportage to leave the road, trip, and roll over before coming to rest on its driver’s side, facing northwest.

Jade Doyle was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka with suspected minor injuries. The occupants of the Kia Sportage, 55-year-old Janice M. Searcy and 62-year-old Troy E. Searcy, both of Silver Lake, sustained suspected serious injuries and were taken to Stormont Vail Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene The Kia Soul by Taylor’s Towing & Recovery and the Sportage by Elite Towing. Emergency services responded quickly and provided medical assistance before transferring the injured to local hospitals. The crash remains under active investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

We hope that Janice and Troy Searcy, along with Jade Doyle, recover quickly and fully.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Three Injured in Topeka Car Accident on Topeka BlvdEach year, hundreds of people are hurt in Topeka car accidents across Kansas. According to KDOT crash statistics, intersection-related collisions account for a significant portion of injury-causing accidents statewide. In many cases, failure to yield, distracted driving, and impaired judgment can lead to serious outcomes.

When someone is hurt, they often face long-term physical and financial challenges. Fortunately, laws in Kansas allow injured victims to seek compensation. The unfortunate truth is that insurance companies might use insurance tactics to minimize payouts. Victims may need to engage in mediation to reach fair agreements.

Common Causes of Car Accidents

Understanding how these incidents occur is important in reducing future harm. Below are some common causes of car accidents in Kansas:

  • Failure to Yield: This occurs when a driver does not allow another vehicle the right of way, often at intersections. It’s a common cause of side-impact collisions like the one seen in this Topeka car accident.
  • Distracted Driving: Whether it’s texting, eating, or using in-vehicle tech, distractions significantly raise the risk of a crash. Distracted drivers may overlook traffic signs or react too slowly to hazards.
  • Driver Fatigue: Tired drivers are slower to react, have impaired judgment, and are more prone to errors. Fatigue-related crashes are especially dangerous on long, rural roads.
  • Speeding: Excess speed reduces a driver’s ability to react in time and increases the severity of Topeka car accidents. It also contributes to loss of vehicle control, especially in curves and during evasive maneuvers.
  • Poor Weather Conditions: Rain, fog, and snow create slick surfaces and reduce visibility. Drivers often fail to adjust speed or maintain safe distances, leading to multi-vehicle pileups or slide-offs.

Timing matters in these cases. Be sure to act before the personal injury filing deadline passes. For this reason, it is in your best interest to seek legal help right away.
