Rear-End Injury Crash in Emporia, KS at Industrial Rd & W 6th Ave

Emporia, KS (January 17, 2026) – An Emporia car accident sent a Hartford man to the hospital Friday morning after his vehicle was struck from behind at a traffic light.

On January 16 at around 11:50 a.m., emergency responders with the Kansas Highway Patrol were dispatched to the intersection of Industrial Road and West 6th Avenue near the Emporia city limits. According to officials, William Byron Nienstedt, 66, was driving a 2023 Ford Maverick and had stopped at a red light in the right lane when a 2019 Dodge Durango collided with the back of his vehicle.

The Durango was being driven by 44-year-old Tosha Marie Holecek of Dodge City. She remained at the scene and was reportedly uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. M & M Auto towed both vehicles from the scene.

Nienstedt was transported to Newman Hospital for the treatment of injuries. The incident is under continued investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

We wish Mr. Nienstedt a smooth and full recovery.
