Pettis, MO – Two Vehicles Collide on US 50 & Rte MM

Pettis, MO (May 26, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash occurred late Saturday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Route MM in Pettis County. The collision happened at around 10:33 a.m. on May 24, resulting in significant vehicle damage and at least one person being hurt.

Reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicate that a 2015 Ford Mustang, driven westbound by a 41-year-old man from Lake Ozark, failed to stop at a red light. As a result, the Mustang struck the driver’s side of a 2006 Mercury Montego traveling southbound through the intersection. The Montego was driven by another 41-year-old man from Sedalia.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene. The Mercury was towed by Don’s, while the Mustang was removed by InMotion. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Mercury Montego suffered injuries and was treated at the scene. No additional occupants were listed in the crash report.

Troopers W.C. Grose and M.G. Bennett responded to the incident along with local emergency crews. The investigation into the crash remains active.

We hope the injured driver makes a full and quick recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Pettis, MO - Two Vehicles Collide After Mustang Runs Red Light on US 50Car accidents continue to pose serious risks across Missouri’s highways and intersections. According to 2023 data from the Missouri Department of Transportation, there were over 150,000 motor vehicle crashes reported statewide. Thousands of those incidents led to injury or death, often stemming from avoidable driver errors.

As we reflect on the circumstances of this crash, here are some important factors often involved in collisions like this:

  • Running Red Lights: Disregarding traffic signals is a leading cause of intersection collisions. Drivers who run red lights not only endanger themselves but also place other motorists in immediate harm. High-speed impacts in these cases often occur on the side of the struck vehicle, making injuries more likely.
  • Right-of-Way Violations: Many crashes at intersections result from drivers failing to yield properly. When motorists ignore rules regarding right-of-way, they increase the risk of T-bone or side-impact crashes, which are among the most dangerous due to limited protection on vehicle sides.
  • Time of Day and Visibility: Mid-morning and afternoon hours often see heavy traffic, especially on weekends. Drivers may become impatient or distracted, leading to poor decision-making at intersections. Good visibility does not always translate to safe driving if traffic laws are ignored.
  • Driver Distraction or Inattention: Even when weather and road conditions are favorable, a momentary lapse in attention can result in serious collisions. Whether due to mobile phone use or internal distractions, inattentiveness remains a significant contributor to crashes.
