Pettis, MO – 80-Year-Old Man Injured in Crash at Rt-U & McVey Rd

Pettis, MO (April 20, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash left an elderly driver injured Friday evening following a collision on Route U at McVey Road. The accident occurred at approximately 8:41 p.m. on April 18 in Pettis County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 54-year-old woman from Sedalia was driving a 2022 Honda CR-V westbound on McVey Road. As she reached the intersection at Route U, she stopped at the stop sign and attempted to turn north. During the maneuver, she collided with a northbound 2012 Ford Escape driven by an 80-year-old man from Cole Camp.

The Ford Escape crashed with the Honda CR-V as it entered the intersection. The impact caused extensive damage to the Ford, which had to be towed from the scene by Don’s Tow. The Honda sustained only minor damage and was able to be driven from the site.

Emergency responders from Pettis County transported the woman to Bothwell Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The man’s injuries were not listed in the initial report, but given the vehicle’s extensive damage, it’s likely that he was also evaluated for potential trauma. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the collision.

We hope all involved recover quickly and receive the care they need.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Pettis, MO - 80-Year-Old Man Injured in Crash at Rt-U & McVey RdMissouri consistently reports thousands of injury-causing crashes each year. In 2023 alone, more than 55,000 people were injured in traffic-related incidents across the state. These collisions often result from a combination of driver error, road conditions, and visibility challenges. Drivers are encouraged to remain cautious, especially at rural intersections and lesser-trafficked roadways where visibility and signage can become factors.

In crashes like these, there are a number of factors that can leave victims physically and emotionally shaken. Here are some of the more common injuries seen in Missouri car accidents:

  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: One of the most common outcomes in rear-end or side-impact collisions, whiplash happens when the head jerks suddenly. Victims may not feel symptoms immediately, but pain, stiffness, and dizziness can show up hours or even days later.
  • Fractures and Broken Bones: Collisions can cause intense forces on the body, often resulting in broken arms, legs, ribs, or collarbones. These injuries can require casts, surgery, and months of recovery.
  • Concussions and Head Injuries: Even with airbags and seat belts, head injuries can still occur. These injuries can be serious and require medical observation, particularly for elderly drivers or passengers.
  • Back and Spinal Injuries: Injuries to the back or spine can be life-changing. Herniated discs, nerve compression, or spinal fractures may lead to long-term physical therapy or even permanent disability.
  • Cuts, Lacerations, and Bruises: Broken glass, twisted metal, or airbag deployment can cause deep cuts and bruises. While some may seem minor, others might need stitches or leave scars.
