Overland Park Car Accident on I-35 Near 75th St Leaves Three Injured

Overland Park, KS (January 20, 2026) – A chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles injured three people Monday afternoon, January 19, on southbound I-35 in Johnson County. The Overland Park car accident yesterday occurred around 2:54 p.m. near milepost 226.4, approximately 0.8 miles south of 75th St.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, traffic suddenly slowed in the #3 lane, triggering a multi-vehicle collision. A 2015 Nissan Rogue, driven by 19-year-old Erika Garcia-Reyes of Shawnee, struck the rear of a 2012 Subaru Outback. The Subaru, operated by 31-year-old Victoria Gomez Alvardo of Shawnee, was then pushed into a 2023 Toyota Tacoma. Moments later, a 2012 Kia Soul rear-ended Garcia-Reyes’ Rogue.

Gomez Alvardo and her passenger, 33-year-old Yexson Bonilla Velasquez, both sustained injuries and were transported to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment. Garcia-Reyes also suffered minor injuries in the crash. The drivers of the Toyota Tacoma and Kia Soul, Elijah Kellenberger and Robbin Szymula, were not injured, nor was Szymula’s 79-year-old passenger, Margaret Roberts.

The Overland Park Police Department responded to the scene alongside EMS. Traffic was slowed as authorities investigated, and vehicles were removed by Santa Fe Tow. As of now, the accident remains under investigation.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Overland Park Car Accidents

Overland Park Car Accident on I-35 Near 75th St Leaves Three InjuredCar crashes across Kansas are a daily reality. Spinal cord injuries can cause long-term disruptions to mobility and function, while injury victims may be entitled to receive a fair settlement for their care, pain, and financial losses.

Recovering after a serious collision can take time, and these factors are essential for anyone dealing with the aftermath of a crash like the Overland Park car accident yesterday. Below are common effects crash victims may experience in the aftermath:

  • Whiplash Injuries: Sudden impacts can force the neck to move rapidly back and forth, causing soft tissue strain and more severe neck injuries. Even minor whiplash can result in lasting pain and restricted movement.
  • Emotional Trauma: Car crashes can be mentally distressing. Anxiety, sleep disturbances, or fear of driving again are common symptoms. Seeking counseling or therapy may help.
  • Medical Bills: Aftercare, diagnostic testing, and physical therapy can create significant expenses. It’s crucial to document all costs for potential recovery through insurance or legal action.
