Pedestrian Accident in Kansas CityPedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck on I-35

Pedestrian crashes on highways and major roads are particularly dangerous, and unfortunately, they are not uncommon in Missouri. When a person is on foot near fast-moving traffic, the risks are extreme. Several factors often contribute to these types of collisions:

  • Low visibility – Many pedestrian accidents happen during nighttime or early morning hours when drivers struggle to see people walking along or across the road. Dim lighting and dark clothing make it harder for motorists to react in time.
  • High vehicle speeds – Highways like I-35 are designed for fast-moving traffic. At those speeds, drivers have less time to avoid a pedestrian, and impacts are often severe.
  • Distracted driving – Cell phone use, eating, or other distractions can cause drivers to miss seeing pedestrians until it’s too late.
  • Driver impairment – Alcohol or drug use reduces reaction times and awareness, increasing the chance of hitting someone on the roadway.

Each of these factors makes highways among the most dangerous places for pedestrians. The combination of fast-moving vehicles, limited visibility, and potential driver distraction often leads to devastating outcomes.

Cases involving pedestrians on highways are complex and require careful investigation. Police reports, witness statements, and accident reconstruction all play an important role in determining what happened and who is at fault. Insurance companies may also challenge claims or try to minimize their responsibility.

This is why working with a personal injury lawyer can make a significant difference. An experienced attorney understands the unique challenges of pedestrian accident cases and can fight to ensure victims receive the justice and financial recovery they deserve.
