Liberty, MO (March 30, 2025) – First responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 35 near MO 210 at approximately 3:35 p.m. on March 29. A 76-year-old man was transported to North Kansas City Hospital with injuries following the collision.

The crash took place Saturday afternoon after a 2000 Ford Focus, driven by the man from Gladstone, rear-ended a 2022 Ford Escape. Both vehicles were headed north on the interstate when the incident occurred. The impact left the Ford Focus with total damage and required towing from the scene. The Ford Escape, operated by a 45-year-old woman from Liberty, sustained extensive damage and was also towed. Emergency personnel with Kansas City Fire treated the injured man at the scene before transporting him to the hospital for further evaluation. Authorities with Troop A continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope the man injured in this accident recovers quickly.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Liberty, MO - Rear-End Crash on I-35 Leaves One InjuredMissouri sees thousands of motor vehicle accidents each year, many resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. According to recent traffic data, the state averages over 150,000 traffic crashes annually. These incidents often occur on highways and interstates where speeds are higher and reaction time is limited. Even minor errors in these areas can lead to severe collisions and significant injuries.

Rear-end collisions, like the one on I-35, often stem from various contributing factors. Here are some key considerations to keep in mind:

  • Distracted Driving: One of the leading causes of rear-end crashes, distractions like texting or using a GPS can delay a driver’s reaction time. Even a brief glance away from the road can make it impossible to avoid hitting a vehicle in front. These crashes often happen at full speed, increasing the risk of injuries.
  • Tailgating: Following too closely reduces the time a driver has to react if the vehicle ahead slows down or stops suddenly. Missouri law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance, yet tailgating remains a common problem on high-speed roads.
  • Sudden Stops: Unexpected braking due to traffic slowdowns or obstacles can lead to rear-end accidents, especially if the driver behind is unprepared or distracted. These situations are more common during heavy traffic periods or near construction zones.
  • Roadway Speed Conditions: Driving too fast for traffic or weather conditions can lead to loss of control or an inability to stop in time. On highways like I-35, maintaining appropriate speeds is critical to reducing the risk of high-impact collisions.
  • Weather-Related Visibility Issues: Rain, fog, or low sun glare can impair visibility and slow reaction times. Drivers must adjust their speed and increase following distances during these conditions to avoid rear-end collisions.
