Liberty, MO – Injuries in Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-35 at Cookingham Rd & Hwy 69

Liberty, MO (February 8, 2026) – Multiple crashes shut down southbound Interstate 35 in Liberty on Thursday, February 5, leaving at least one person hurt.

Emergency units responded to the first crash around 6:45 a.m. near the southbound exit to Cookingham Road. A second crash happened about 15 minutes later near Highway 69 on I-35. Crews worked at both scenes as traffic backed up along the highway.

Authorities closed all southbound lanes between Kearney and Highway 69 for a short time. Officers directed drivers off the highway onto Plattsburg Road while crews cleared the wrecked vehicles. Tow trucks removed damaged cars from both locations.

Officials have not confirmed how many people were injured or how serious the injuries may be. Paramedics evaluated those involved at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crashes.

We wish those hurt a rapid and complete recovery.

What Should You Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Missouri?

You should seek medical care right away and document what happened. Multi-vehicle crashes on highways like I-35 can leave people shaken and unsure of their next steps. Missouri sees thousands of injury crashes each year, and busy interstates in the Kansas City metro area account for a large share of them.

Highway crashes can cause serious harm, even at moderate speeds. People may suffer neck and back injuries, broken bones, concussions, or internal injuries. Pain does not always appear right away, and a person might feel worse hours or days later.

Medical bills can grow quickly, especially if hospital stays or follow-up visits are needed.

A personal injury lawyer can review what happened and explain what options may be available. An attorney can gather crash reports, medical records, and witness statements to build a clear picture of events. In certain cases, a person may be able to seek payment for medical costs, lost income, and other related expenses.

Speaking with a lawyer can bring clarity during a stressful time. At Wallentine Injury Law, we help crash victims learn more about their legal options after a serious highway accident.
