Lees Summit, MO – Multi Vehicle Collision at MO 150 & S Harris Rd

Lees Summit, MO (June 18, 2025) – Emergency crews arrived shortly after 1:40 p.m. on June 17 after a crash involving two SUVs at the intersection of Missouri Highway 150 and South Harris Road in Jackson County. Reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol show that at least one person was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Earlier on June 17, authorities responded to the intersection when a 2019 Mini Cooper Countryman, driven northbound on South Harris Road, failed to yield and collided with a 2024 Ford Escape traveling east on MO‑150. The Ford struck the driver’s side of the Mini Cooper, causing damage to both vehicles. The Mini Cooper came to rest facing southwest in the westbound lane of MO‑150, while the Ford Escape stopped facing east in the center of the intersection.

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 61‑year‑old man from Pleasant Hill, Missouri, suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to St. Luke’s East. The Mini Cooper’s driver, an 80‑year‑old woman from Plattsburg, Missouri, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Southern Jackson County EMS to Research Medical Center. Both were wearing safety belts during the crash. The crash is being investigated at this time.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

In light of how often these accidents occur and how life can change in a single moment, here’s some important information that can help you understand the realities of car crashes in Missouri:

  • Common Causes of Intersection Collisions: Failure to yield, running stop signs or red lights, and distracted driving are among the leading causes. Intersections requiring quick judgment can overload a driver’s situational awareness. In rural areas with high-speed roads, even a momentary lapse can result in a serious crash.
  • Frequent Types of Crash‑Related Injuries: Victims often suffer fractures in arms or ribs, whiplash, and soft-tissue trauma. Older drivers may also experience head injuries or extensive bruising due to reduced bone density. Quick medical attention can improve recovery outcomes.
  • Impact of Age on Accident Risk: Older drivers may have slowed responses or vision issues, making the fast decision-making needed at intersections more challenging. Accidents involving elderly drivers often result in more severe outcomes due to increased fragility.
  • Vehicle Damage & Insurance Implications: Totaled vehicles, like the Ford Escape, typically result in total loss claims under comprehensive auto insurance. Extensive damage, such as that to the Mini Cooper, can trigger diminished-value claims and legal considerations about financial responsibility post-accident.
