Kansas City, MO – Pickup Hits Pedestrian at Westport Rd & Main St, Critical Injuries

Kansas City, MO (October 27, 2025) – A pedestrian suffered critical injuries on Saturday, October 25, after being hit by a pickup truck at the intersection of Westport Road and Main Street in Kansas City.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers responded to the scene just before 12:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Investigators determined that the pedestrian had been crossing Main Street from west to east in a marked crosswalk while the traffic control signal was red. At the same time, a black GMC Sierra traveling east on Westport Road made a right turn onto southbound Main Street and hit the pedestrian.

The impact threw the victim onto the concrete, causing severe injuries. Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided lifesaving aid before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. The pedestrian remains in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the GMC immediately stopped and cooperated with authorities. The crash closed Main Street for about 90 minutes and temporarily halted KC Streetcar operations while investigators documented the scene. Both the roadway and streetcar service have since reopened.

The Kansas City Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we hope for their full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in Kansas CityPedestrian Critically Injured After Being Struck by Pickup at Westport Rd & Main St

Pedestrian safety remains a serious concern in Kansas City, where busy intersections and high traffic volumes increase the risk of injury. Even in marked crosswalks, pedestrians are vulnerable to devastating accidents when drivers fail to yield, turn without checking their surroundings, or ignore traffic signals. Collisions like this recent one often result in catastrophic harm, including broken bones, spinal damage, and traumatic brain injuries.

Pedestrian accidents frequently occur because of:

  • Driver distraction from phones or in-vehicle systems
  • Failure to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
  • Turning at intersections without checking for foot traffic
  • Speeding or running red lights
  • Reduced visibility caused by glare or weather conditions

Victims of pedestrian crashes face overwhelming challenges, from medical expenses and physical rehabilitation to emotional trauma. In severe cases, these incidents can result in lifelong disabilities.

Victims of pedestrian crashes may be entitled to compensation covering current and future medical treatment, lost wages and reduced earning capacity, pain, suffering, and emotional distress, as well as rehabilitation, physical therapy, and long-term care or necessary accommodations needed for recovery.
