Kansas City, MO – Pedestrian Struck with Serious Injuries at NE Pleasant Valley Rd & N Brighton Ave

Kansas City, MO (December 17, 2025) – A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries on Tuesday afternoon, December 16, after a vehicle struck them at a busy intersection in Kansas City. The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of Northeast Pleasant Valley Road and North Brighton Avenue, according to the Kansas City police.

Authorities reported that the pedestrian was crossing North Brighton Avenue in a clearly marked crosswalk at the time of the incident. A silver Buick Envision traveled westbound on Pleasant Valley Road and attempted to turn left onto southbound North Brighton Avenue. During that turn, the vehicle struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided medical assistance at the scene. Paramedics transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police later confirmed that the pedestrian initially suffered life-threatening injuries but was later listed in stable condition. Officials did not release the pedestrian’s identity.

The driver of the Buick remained at the scene following the crash and cooperated with law enforcement. Authorities confirmed that the driver did not suffer any injuries.

Kansas City police confirmed the investigation remains open.

Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we hope they continue to recover steadily.

Pedestrian Accidents in MissouriPedestrian Struck with Serious Injuries at NE Pleasant Valley Rd & N Brighton Ave

Pedestrian accidents remain a serious safety issue throughout Missouri, particularly at intersections with heavy traffic flow. When vehicles turn through crosswalks, pedestrians often face significant risk. Even when a pedestrian follows traffic signals and markings, a collision can occur within seconds.

In pedestrian crashes, the injuries are often severe because the human body has no protection against a moving vehicle. Victims may suffer broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, internal injuries, or long-term mobility issues. Recovery may involve emergency care, surgery, physical therapy, and extended time away from work or normal activities.

After a serious pedestrian accident, victims may be eligible to pursue compensation for the losses they experience. Depending on the facts of the case, possible compensation may include:

  • Medical expenses related to emergency care, hospitalization, surgery, rehabilitation, and follow-up treatment
  • Future medical costs if injuries require long-term care or ongoing therapy
  • Lost wages for time missed from work during recovery
  • Loss of future earning capacity if injuries limit the ability to return to the same job
  • Pain and suffering related to physical injuries and emotional distress
  • Loss of enjoyment of life caused by permanent or long-lasting injuries
  • Out-of-pocket expenses connected to transportation, mobility aids, or home modifications

Pedestrian injury cases often require a careful review of traffic laws, crosswalk rules, and driver behavior. Investigations may include police reports, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and accident reconstruction. Establishing fault plays a key role in determining what compensation may be available.

Legal guidance can help injured pedestrians understand their rights and options. A Missouri personal injury lawyer can evaluate the details of the crash, handle insurance communications, and pursue accountability on behalf of the injured victim. This support allows individuals and families to focus on healing while legal matters move forward.
