Hit-and-run crashes create a special kind of fear because the driver disappears when help matters most. In Missouri, pedestrian crashes often happen on wider roadway corridors where cars move quickly and foot traffic still exists. These roads connect neighborhoods and business areas, which means people may walk near or across it even late at night.

Victims in pedestrian hit-and-runs may face injuries such as:

  • Traumatic brain injuries. A hard blow to the head can cause a concussion, bleeding in the brain, or long-term memory and balance problems.
  • Spinal cord and back injuries. The impact can damage vertebrae or nerves, leading to chronic pain or even paralysis.
  • Broken bones. Pedestrians often suffer fractures to the legs, hips, ribs, arms, or pelvis when the vehicle hits them or they land on the road.
  • Internal injuries. Blunt force can harm organs like the lungs, liver, or spleen, sometimes causing hidden bleeding that turns life-threatening fast.
  • Severe cuts and bruising. Glass, metal, and pavement can cause deep wounds that may require stitches or surgery.
  • Crush injuries. In some cases, a wheel or bumper can trap part of the body, leading to lasting muscle or tissue damage.

Even when someone seems stable at first, symptoms can worsen later. Headaches, dizziness, numbness, or stomach pain after a crash can signal serious problems. That is why doctors urge full testing right away and close monitoring in the days that follow.

This is also where the guidance of a personal injury lawyer can protect victims’ rights. A lawyer can coordinate with investigators, gather records, and look for insurance options that may still apply even when the driver is unknown. That support can ease pressure on families while the search continues.
