Kansas City, MO – Multi-Vehicle Truck Wreck on I-35 Ends in Injuries

Kansas City, MO (March 2, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 35, just south of MO-152, left one person injured and caused significant traffic delays on Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred around 2:00 p.m., prompting a response from emergency crews and law enforcement.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2023 Freightliner driven by a 49-year-old man from Prescott, Wisconsin, collided with the rear of a 2024 Kia K5. The impact forced the Kia into the cable median barrier before it struck a third vehicle, a 2020 Lincoln Aviator. The driver of the Kia, a 23-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri, sustained minor injuries. She was transported by private vehicle to Liberty Hospital for further evaluation. The other drivers involved, a 49-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, were uninjured and able to drive their vehicles away from the scene.

Authorities reported that the Kia K5 sustained total damage and had to be towed from the scene, while the Freightliner had only minor damage. The Lincoln Aviator was undamaged. Law enforcement officers, including Trooper T.R. Peoples and assisting officers, remained on-site to investigate the crash and direct traffic.

We hope the injured driver makes a swift recovery.

Truck Accidents in Missouri

Kansas City, MO – Multi-Vehicle Truck Wreck on I-35 Ends in InjuriesMissouri sees a significant number of truck-related accidents each year. In 2023, the Missouri Department of Transportation reported over 14,000 crashes involving commercial vehicles. Many of these accidents result in serious injuries or fatalities due to the size and weight of large trucks.

There are several common causes of truck accidents in Missouri:

  • Rear-End Collisions – These often occur when a truck driver fails to stop in time, leading to severe damage and injuries for smaller vehicles involved. Large trucks require more stopping distance, making sudden slowdowns particularly dangerous.
  • Driver Fatigue – Truck drivers frequently work long hours, and fatigue can significantly impair reaction times. Federal regulations limit driving hours, but violations still occur.
  • Mechanical Failures – Faulty brakes, tire blowouts, or transmission failures can contribute to accidents. Regular maintenance is crucial for preventing mechanical issues.
  • Distracted Driving – Using a phone, adjusting navigation, or eating while driving can take a truck driver’s attention off the road, increasing the likelihood of an accident.
  • Improper Lane Changes – Large blind spots make it difficult for truck drivers to see smaller vehicles, leading to dangerous lane-change collisions.
