Johnson Co., KS (December 20, 2025) – An early morning commute turned chaotic after a five-vehicle crash was reported on December 19 around 8:05 a.m. on northbound Interstate 35, near mile marker 221.6 and just northeast of College Blvd in Johnson County.
According to investigators from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash began when a 2020 Ford chassis rear-ended a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado while traveling in lane five. The impact caused a chain reaction, sending the Silverado into a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, which was then pushed into a 2024 Hino tractor. Meanwhile, a 2017 Ford F-250 traveling behind the initial crash attempted to avoid the pileup by steering right, striking a nearby barrier wall.
A 21-year-old passenger in the Hyundai from Kansas City was hurt in the accident and transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for further care. Authorities remain on scene for several hours to investigate and clear debris. The crash remains under active review.
