Johnson Co., MO – Driver Injured After Two-Vehicle Crash on MO-13

Johnson Co., MO (March 25, 2025) – A man was injured early Saturday morning when a semi-truck crossed the center line on Missouri 13 and collided with a Kia sedan. The crash occurred at around 8:42 a.m. on March 23 and involved a 2007 Kenworth truck and a 2015 Kia.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on MO-13 just south of DD Highway. Investigators say the northbound Kenworth veered over the center line and struck the southbound Kia. The force of the impact caused the Kia to spin and come to rest disabled in the northbound lane, while the semi continued northbound. The Kia sustained total damage and had to be towed from the scene. The Kenworth had moderate damage but was driven away.

The 37-year-old truck driver from Kansas City suffered minor injuries and is reportedly seeking medical treatment on his own. No injuries were reported for the driver of the Kia.

We hope the injured man makes a full and smooth recovery.

Truck Accidents in Missouri

Johnson Co., MO – Driver Injured After Two-Vehicle Crash on MO-13Truck accidents are a serious concern on Missouri roads. Due to their size and weight, commercial vehicles can cause significant damage and injury in a crash. In 2022, Missouri reported over 13,000 crashes involving commercial trucks, many of which resulted in injuries or fatalities. Rural highways like MO-13 are especially prone to these types of collisions.

Let’s take a closer look at why these accidents happen and what makes them particularly dangerous:

  • Fatigue Behind the Wheel: Truck drivers often spend long hours on the road. Fatigue can lead to poor judgment, slower reaction times, and even falling asleep while driving. These conditions make it easier for a driver to drift into oncoming lanes or miss hazards.
  • Blind Spots: Large trucks have considerable blind spots, especially along the sides and rear. If a truck driver fails to see a smaller vehicle in one of these areas, lane changes or turns can lead to crashes.
  • Brake Distance and Weight: Heavy commercial trucks require more time and distance to come to a stop. If traffic changes suddenly or a vehicle appears unexpectedly, trucks may not be able to avoid impact in time.
  • Crossing the Center Line: As seen in this crash, when a truck crosses into oncoming traffic, the risk of serious or fatal injuries rises dramatically. Whether due to distraction, fatigue, or road conditions, these head-on or side-impact collisions are among the most severe.
