Jackson, MO – Pedestrian Struck by Acura RDX on MO-150

Jackson, MO (June 2, 2025) – A serious accident was reported on Missouri Route 150 at 20th Avenue North at approximately 8:05 p.m. on May 30, leaving one pedestrian injured.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened as a 2013 Acura RDX, driven by a 44-year-old woman from Greenwood, Missouri, was traveling westbound through a construction work zone. For reasons still under investigation, the Acura failed to yield to a 61-year-old male pedestrian from Kansas City, Missouri, striking a portable light tower before hitting the pedestrian. After the collision, the vehicle left the roadway and came to rest off the right side.

The pedestrian, who was not using a safety device, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Lee’s Summit Fire Department to Research Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment. The driver of the Acura was reportedly uninjured but her vehicle sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene by Elite Towing. Authorities, including Corporal A.D. Lindgren, Trooper M.A. Harris, and members of the Greenwood Police Department, responded to the scene. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

We hope the injured pedestrian experiences a full and speedy recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Jackson, MO - Pedestrian Struck by Acura RDX on MO-150Car accidents are a common concern in Missouri. In 2023, the state recorded over 150,000 traffic-related incidents, with thousands of those involving pedestrians. Work zones, like the one in this incident, pose additional risks for both drivers and workers. Missouri continues to stress the importance of cautious driving, especially through construction areas, to protect everyone on the roadway.

It’s important to understand how work zone crashes happen. Here are several contributing factors:

  • Failure to Yield: Drivers often overlook pedestrians or workers, particularly in areas where traffic patterns change suddenly. Failing to yield the right-of-way can have serious consequences, as seen in this incident.
  • Distracted Driving: Work zones demand extra attention. Distractions like mobile phones or GPS devices can easily lead to accidents.
  • Speeding Through Work Zones: Reduced speed limits are enforced for a reason. Exceeding these limits increases the likelihood of collisions and worsens the severity of injuries.
  • Improper Lane Changes: With lanes often shifted or narrowed, unsafe lane changes can cause drivers to lose control and collide with workers or equipment.
  • Driver Fatigue: Long hours behind the wheel can dull reaction times, making it harder for drivers to respond to changes in work zones quickly and safely.
