According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1999 Ford F150 driven by 18-year-old Hudson Ross Adkison of El Dorado was traveling northbound when it failed to obey traffic warning devices posted in the construction area. The pickup then struck the rear of a stopped 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep was being driven by 54-year-old Stephanie Ann Johnson of Augusta and had come to a stop due to a construction zone flagman directing traffic.
The impact triggered a domino effect. The Jeep was pushed into a 2020 Volvo XCC40 operated by 52-year-old Shari Marleta Tice of Rose Hill. That vehicle was then forced into a 2023 Peterbilt semi tractor driven by 45-year-old Darrin J Lonsdale of Kimball, Nebraska. All vehicles except the Ford pickup were stationary at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to assist those involved. Adkison, Johnson, and Tice were all transported to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening. Lonsdale, the driver of the semi truck, was not reported to have suffered injuries.
