Car Accidents in Missouri

Independence, MO – Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 210 at 291 Leaves One InjuredCar crashes in Missouri remain a troubling concern, with thousands of injury-related incidents reported each year. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, over 47,000 people were hurt in traffic crashes in 2023 alone. Many of these collisions occur at intersections or involve failure to yield, as seen in this case.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the most common types of crash-related injuries that impact Missouri drivers:

  • Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: These injuries are common in rear-end and side-impact collisions. Even low-speed crashes can result in strained muscles and ligaments, particularly in the neck and back. Symptoms might not appear immediately, making it important to seek medical attention after any crash.
  • Broken Bones: Fractures to arms, legs, ribs, or wrists are frequently reported following crashes. The impact of a crash can cause a vehicle’s structure to collapse around occupants, making broken bones a frequent result in moderate to severe crashes.
  • Head Injuries: Concussions and more serious traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) can occur even when seatbelts are worn. These injuries can have lasting cognitive and emotional effects. Immediate diagnosis and ongoing care are often necessary for recovery.
  • Internal Injuries: Injuries to organs such as the liver or lungs may not show symptoms right away but can be life-threatening. Emergency room doctors usually check for internal bleeding after significant impacts.
  • Lacerations and Contusions: Glass shattering or contact with vehicle interiors often leads to cuts and bruises. While many are minor, deeper lacerations may require stitches or even surgery.
