Head-On Crash in New Century, KS on Old 56 Hwy Near Clare Rd

New Century, KS (December 29, 2025) – Five people were injured Saturday evening in a head-on crash in New Century, just east of the New Century AirCenter.

Authorities say the crash took place around 6:30 p.m. on December 27 on Old 56 Highway near Clare Road and involved a Dodge pickup truck and a black passenger vehicle that collided head-on, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Due to the scale of the injuries and number of victims, the response was upgraded to a Mass Casualty Incident. Firefighters from Olathe and Johnson County Fire District 1 worked alongside Johnson County Med-Act, the Olathe Police Department, and sheriff’s deputies to assist at the scene.

Emergency medical personnel transported three victims in critical condition to local hospitals. Two others were taken in stable condition, including a 3½-year-old child who was sent to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Radio traffic from the scene indicated that all individuals involved were properly restrained, with the young child securely fastened in a car seat.

Crews closed the area for an extended period while tending to victims and clearing the roadway. The crash is still under investigation by authorities.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
