Harrisonville, MO – Two Hospitalized After Motorcycle Crash on I-49 SB

Harrisonville, MO (December 21, 2025) – A man and woman suffered serious injuries after a violent motorcycle crash on Saturday, December 20, south of Harrisonville. The collision happened just before 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 49 southbound, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Witnesses said a 1988 Harley Davidson FXRS veered off the right side of the roadway and slammed into an embankment. The force of the impact caused the motorcycle to overturn, throwing both riders onto the pavement.

The 64-year-old man driving the motorcycle suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews airlifted him to an area hospital, where he remains in serious condition. The 65-year-old woman riding as a passenger also sustained serious injuries. Paramedics rushed her by ambulance to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities have not released the names of either victim at this time. Investigators spent several hours gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses to determine what led up to the collision. The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate what caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway.

We wish the victims a full and swift recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri

Two Hospitalized After Motorcycle Crash on I-49 SB

Motorcycle accidents in Missouri frequently result in life-altering injuries. Riders face greater risks because motorcycles offer little physical protection during a crash. When a motorcycle strikes an embankment or overturns, injuries often become catastrophic within seconds.

Common causes of motorcycle accidents include:

  • Distracted Driving: Texting, phone calls, or adjusting in car controls pull a driver’s focus from the road and put motorcyclists at risk.
  • Speeding: Higher speeds leave drivers with less time to react and longer stopping distance.
  • Failure to Yield: Drivers often fail to notice motorcycles in time and pull out or change lanes without checking blind spots.
  • Poor Road Conditions: Debris, uneven pavement, and potholes can quickly cause a motorcycle to lose control.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, ice, or fog reduce visibility, make roads slippery, and increase the risk of a crash.

Common motorcycle crash injuries include head trauma, spinal damage, broken bones, internal injuries, and long-term mobility issues. Many victims require surgeries, extended hospital stays, and months of rehabilitation. The physical pain often comes with emotional stress, lost income, and mounting medical bills.

Insurance companies often contact injured riders quickly after a serious crash. They may pressure victims to accept early settlements that do not reflect the true cost of long-term care. Accepting a fast payout can leave injured riders struggling to cover future medical needs.

Working with an experienced motorcycle accident lawyer can protect your rights during this critical time. A lawyer can investigate the crash, gather key evidence, and handle all communication with insurance companies. Legal guidance helps ensure injured riders do not face this process alone.
