Dighton, KS – Two Hurt After Crash on K23 & Rd 200

Dighton, KS (July 23, 2025) – Two drivers were transported to Lane County Hospital after a two-vehicle collision that occurred along Kansas Highway 23 near Road 200 shortly after 12:35 p.m. on July 22.

The crash unfolded as both vehicles were traveling north on K23, just past mile marker 120. According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2019 Ford F250, identified as 32-year-old Jesse R. Beesley of Dighton, began making a left turn onto Road 200. As Beesley was attempting the turn, a 2004 Freightliner driven by 63-year-old Ben R. Fehr of Sublette tried to pass him on the left. The Freightliner struck the F250 on its driver’s side during the maneuver.

Emergency medical services arrived on the scene and assessed both drivers for injuries. Fehr and Beesley were both transported to Lane County Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Authorities closed a section of K23 for a period as crews worked to clear debris and investigate the incident. The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to look into the events leading up to the crash to determine whether any citations or charges will be issued.

We hope both Mr. Fehr and Mr. Beesley recover quickly.

Truck Accidents in Kansas

Dighton, KS - Two Hurt After Crash on K23 & Rd 200Truck collisions can cause significant damage and serious injuries, especially when commercial vehicles like Freightliners are involved. In Kansas, recent data shows that heavier vehicles involved in rural road collisions are more likely to cause hospitalization for drivers. Many crashes occur on highways like K23 where passing maneuvers and turning vehicles create dangerous conditions.

When it comes to pickup truck crashes, several key factors often contribute to the outcome:

  • Blind Spots: Larger vehicles like Freightliners have extended blind spots. These limited sightlines can lead to crashes if a smaller vehicle is not seen during lane changes or passing.
  • Passing on the Left: Attempting to pass on the left while another vehicle is turning can lead to side-impact collisions. Timing and misjudgment are frequent contributors in such scenarios.
  • Rural Road Conditions: Roads like K23 can lack clear markings or shoulders, making turning and overtaking maneuvers riskier, especially when speeds are higher and visibility is limited.
  • Driver Reaction Time: When a driver decides to pass quickly or unexpectedly, they may miscalculate the speed or intent of the vehicle in front. This can result in high-impact collisions during turning motions.
  • Inadequate Signaling: Failing to signal a turn or lane change in time can cause confusion and accidents between closely traveling vehicles.
