Wyandotte County, KS (January 15, 2026) – A car accident in Wyandotte County took place at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, along Interstate 70 eastbound near milepost 417.
According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority, both vehicles were heading east in the far left lane when traffic slowed ahead. One of the vehicles stopped in traffic, and the other was unable to reduce speed in time. As a result, the vehicles became involved in a collision that caused the second vehicle to spin and strike the median barrier. Both were removed by Heartland Tow.
The crash involved a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by a 23-year-old woman from Shawnee and a 2020 Ram 1500 driven by a 52-year-old man from Leavenworth. The female driver was injured and taken to KU Med. The other driver was not hurt. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
Officials have stated that the crash was not related to a police pursuit or a hit-and-run. The scene was cleared shortly after the investigation began, and officers are continuing to finalize the incident report.
