Kansas City, KS (January 19, 2026) – A car accident in Kansas City yesterday ended in serious injuries for at least one child after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 635.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, just north of Orville Avenue in Wyandotte County. Authorities say the driver of a GMC Sierra failed to merge safely near a disabled Toyota RAV4, striking the rear of the stationary vehicle. Both adult drivers involved were uninjured, but two children who were passengers in the Toyota sustained injuries. Emergency crews responded quickly and transported both children, ages six and eight, to a nearby hospital.
The eight-year-old reportedly suffered serious injuries, while the six-year-old’s condition was described as minor. The driver of the GMC is a resident of Kansas City while the Toyota driver is from Wichita.
Traffic along the northbound stretch of I-635 slowed significantly as officers investigated the crash scene and EMS personnel provided aid. The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident, and no charges have been announced as of this writing.
