Car Accident with Injuries Reported on K-10 in Johnson County, KS

Johnson County, KS (March 19, 2026) – A chain-reaction car accident in Johnson County took place on the eastbound side of K-10 near milepost 34.3 over Woodland Street, injuring one person.

According to the crash report, at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, three vehicles were traveling eastbound on K-10 in lane one when traffic slowed ahead due to a separate incident. A 2019 Volkswagen Atlas driven by Megan Black, 39, of De Soto, Kansas, slowed in response. A 2009 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Jose Sanchez Vasquez, 46, of Overland Park, Kansas, slowed behind it.

A 2011 Mazda 3 driven by Andrew Williams, 36, of Olathe, Kansas, attempted to swerve left to avoid the slowing traffic but struck the Traverse in the rear, which was then pushed into the Atlas. The Mazda and Traverse became disabled in lane one and on the left shoulder of the bridge. The Atlas came to a stop on the left shoulder just past the bridge.

Sanchez Vasquez complained of pain and was transported to Advent Health Center for further care. Williams and passenger James Walter, 34, of Olathe, reported no apparent injuries. Black and her two passengers, both age 9, also reported no apparent injuries.

The Mazda 3 and Chevrolet Traverse were removed by Simple Tow Service. The Volkswagen Atlas did not require towing. The crash is being investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Our thoughts are with Jose Sanchez Vasquez, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
