Bates, MO – GMC 2500 and Ford F-150 Collide on MO-52

Bates, MO (June 1, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle accident on Missouri Route 52 west of Northeast County Road 1993 at around 4:20 p.m. on May 29. The collision involved a 2023 GMC 2500 and a 2005 Ford F-150, leaving at least one person injured.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when the front of the Ford F-150, driven by a 73-year-old man from Butler, Missouri, struck the rear of the towed unit attached to the GMC 2500. Following the initial impact, the Ford veered off the left side of the roadway, crashing into a utility pole and a sign. The GMC, driven by a 69-year-old man from Greenwood, Missouri, sustained moderate damage but was able to be driven from the scene.

The driver of the Ford, who was not wearing a safety device, suffered minor injuries. He was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. The GMC driver was reportedly unharmed. The Ford F-150 had to be towed from the scene by Douty Auto due to the damage it sustained. Authorities, including Trooper C.B. Henderson and members of the Bates County Sheriff’s Department, assisted at the scene. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

We hope the injured individual recovers rapidly.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Bates, MO - GMC 2500 and Ford F-150 Collide on MO-52In Missouri, car accidents are unfortunately a common occurrence. In 2023, Missouri reported over 150,000 motor vehicle accidents, resulting in thousands of injuries and fatalities. Factors such as distracted driving, impaired driving, and speeding continue to play significant roles in these incidents. Motorists are reminded to stay alert and drive responsibly to reduce the risk of accidents on Missouri roadways.

Understanding what can cause an accident helps drivers make safer choices. Here are common causes of accidents in Missouri:

  • Rear-End Collisions: These happen when one vehicle strikes the back of another. They often result from following too closely or distracted driving. Proper attention to the road and maintaining safe distances can prevent these crashes.
  • Impaired Driving: Alcohol and drugs greatly impair judgment and reaction time. Missouri law enforces strict penalties for impaired driving, yet it remains a frequent cause of accidents.
  • Distracted Driving: Using cell phones, eating, or adjusting controls can take a driver’s attention away from the road, leading to preventable accidents.
  • Speeding: Driving above the speed limit or too fast for conditions reduces the driver’s ability to react to sudden changes, increasing accident severity.
  • Failure to Yield: Many crashes happen when drivers fail to yield the right-of-way at intersections, contributing to serious injuries.
