Truck Accidents in Missouri

Adrian, MO – Multi-Truck Collision on I-49 Leaves One InjuredMissouri’s highways see a significant amount of truck traffic, which increases the likelihood of serious accidents. In recent years, the Missouri Department of Transportation has reported thousands of crashes involving large trucks annually, many of which result in injuries or fatalities. Factors such as driver fatigue, heavy traffic, and mechanical failures often contribute to these collisions.

Understanding how these accidents happen can help drivers stay aware and cautious. Here are some common causes of truck accidents:

  • Rear-End Collisions – Due to their size and weight, semi-trucks require longer stopping distances. When traffic slows suddenly, truck drivers may struggle to avoid rear-end crashes, especially if they are following too closely or distracted.
  • Lane Departure Accidents – Large trucks often drift out of their lanes due to fatigue, distractions, or strong winds. This can lead to side-swiping smaller vehicles or running off the road.
  • Jackknife Incidents – When a truck’s trailer swings out at an angle, it can block multiple lanes of traffic. These accidents often occur due to abrupt braking, slippery road conditions, or improper cargo loading.
  • Brake Failures – Faulty or overheated brakes can prevent a truck from stopping in time, leading to dangerous high-speed collisions. Regular maintenance is crucial to prevent such failures.
