Three-Vehicle Crash in Gardner, KS on I-35 Injures Two

Gardner, KS (October 18, 2026) – Two people were hospitalized following a three-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 35 on Friday afternoon, October 16. The Gardner car accident occurred around 2:24 p.m. near mile marker 210.8, approximately one-tenth of a mile north of 175th St in Johnson County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling north in lane three when it changed lanes and sideswiped a 2003 International tractor pulling a 2018 Cottrell trailer.

The Dodge spun following the initial impact. A 2026 Chevrolet Trax traveling in lane one then struck the rear driver’s side of the pickup. The Chevrolet went off the left side of the roadway and struck a Kansas Department of Transportation guardrail.

The Dodge driver, Ronald D. Banks, 50, of Gardner, suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Chevrolet passenger Alvaro Acevedo III, 30, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was also injured and taken to Olathe Medical Center.

The International driver, Brad D. Kumaus, 58, of Cottrellville, Michigan, and Chevrolet driver Ryan J. Biddle, 38, of Mahopac, New York, had no apparent injuries. The Dodge and Chevrolet were towed from the scene.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

We hope both injured individuals make a full recovery.
