Kansas City, MO (May 18, 2026) – A fatal Kansas City car accident early Sunday morning left one person dead and two others critically injured after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 670. The collision occurred just before 3:00 a.m. on May 18 in the downtown loop.
According to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, a white Kia Optima was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-670 and crossed all lanes of travel before being struck by a westbound black Chevrolet Avalanche. Emergency crews transported three passengers from the Kia to local hospitals. One passenger was pronounced deceased, and two others were listed in critical condition. Both drivers were reported uninjured.
